The summer blockbuster season has started and the studios fill the market with new sci-fi adventures, action-packed sequels, spectacular animations, thrilling horrors and family comedies. So, to save you lots of time searching the web for numerous film news and reviews we've prepared a top 10 scheduled list of the hottest premieres of the season that we recommend you to watch in 3D. Let's have a look at it!
Green Lantern (June 17)
The first on our “check-this-out” list is the film that's filled with special effects to the top. It is “Green Lantern”. This sci-fi action follows a story of a test pilot (Ryan Reynolds), who is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe. This superhero film is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and is directed by Martin Campbell. Actors Blake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard are in the headlining cast.
Cars 2 (June 24)
Produced by Pixar Animation Studios this will be the sequel to the famous 2006 film “Cars”. This time the story will be all about a racecar Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and tow truck Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy), who head to Japan and Europe to compete in the World Grand Prix. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in international espionage. Exciting, isn't it?
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (June 29)
One of the biggest and highly anticipated premieres of the summer 2011. Directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is the third part in the Transformers film series. The action-packed sequel follows the confrontation between the Autobots and the Deceptacons, who become involved in the space race between the U.S. And Russia. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey and John Malkovich.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II (July 15)
“It All Ends 7.15” state the posters promoting the second part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Halows”, which will be the finale to the whole Harry Potter film series. Life will never be the same again as the biggest battle begins, when Harry, Ron and Hermione go back to Hogwarts on a mission to find out and destroy Lord Voldemort's final horcruxes. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is directed by David Yates and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman and others. Don't miss the epic finale!
Captain America: The First Avenger (July 22)
Directed by Joe Johnston, this superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics character from World War II. It follows a story of a young man called Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who after being deemed unfit for military service, volunteers for a top secret research project. That project turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals. “Captain America: The First Avenger” has a good cast of actors: Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke and Stanley Tucci.
Cowboys and Aliens (July 29)
It's a Wild, Wild West...This time it's not about cowboys only, but also about some aliens! A thrilling sci-fi action “Cowboys and Aliens” is set in 1800s Arizona and follows the local cowboys headed by Zeke Jackson (Daniel Craig), who have been feuding with the Apache tribe for quite a while. Their confrontation is interrupted by the sudden appearance of a spaceship that plans to take over the Earth. The film is based on the graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and has Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, and Sam Rockwell in its headlining cast.
The Smurfs (August 3)
“Oh My Smurf!” Those little blue creatures are back in the upcoming 3D fantasy-family animated movie “The Smurfs”, directed by Raja Gosnell. In this movie the tiny blue Smurfs get out of their magical world into ours – chased by the evil wizard Gargamel they somehow get into New York. Stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find the way to get back to their magical village before Gargamel tracks them down. The film will feature 3D animation and live actors such as Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara and Tim Gunn.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (5 August 2011)
Another highly anticipated premiere of this summer is a prequel to the “Planet of the Apes” series called “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. Being fans of the 1968 sci-fi classic we're so looking forward to Rupert Wyatt's reboot! The upcoming “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” follows a scientist Will Rodman (James Franco), who's working on a cure for Alzheimer's by performing tests on apes. His experiments on genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in his first test subject Caesar, who breaks free and release the cure among other apes. That's how the apes revolution for supremacy begins.
Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World (August 19)
The upcoming film will be a sequel to a great family-action Spy Kids film series directed by Robert Rodriguez. The plot follows the adventures of the children of a married spy couple who become involved in their parent's espionage. This time a mother (Jessica Alba), who's a retired spy, must return to her old profession in order to prevent a villain from stopping time. It should be a great fun for kids!
Fright Night (19 August 2011)
Directed by Craig Gillespie this 3D horror film is a remake of the 1985 Tom Holland film of the same name. "Fright Night" follows a teenager Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who guesses that his new neighbor Jerry Dandrige (Colin Farrell) is a vampire responsible for recent deaths. As no one believes him, Charley asks the opportunistic host of his favorite TV show named Peter Vincent (David Tennant) to help him take down Jerry and his guardian. That sounds like a perfect summer horror!
Conan the Barbarian (19 August 2011)
The last one but not the least on our top 10 list is the upcoming adventurous 3D saga “Conan the Barbarian”, which will be a new adaptation of the famous character. This time Conan the Cimmerian is played by Jason Momoa, who is on a quest to battle the evil forces and avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village. On his way Conan will deal with a ruthless warlord Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang) and his daughter, a powerful witch Marique (Rose McGowan). Lots of battling, blood and action are guaranteed.
